PRESS RELEASE April 15-16, 2005 LA LUNA LLENA, In Praise of The Full Moon, a variety show celebrating National Poetry Month, is being offered on Friday & Saturday evenings, April 15-16 at 7:30 pm in the Harwood Art Centers downstairs theater space. Admission at the door is $7, seniors & students $5. This years program of lively collaborations of poetry, music, dance and theater, features the work of Arizona poet Richard Shelton, author of The Tattooed Desert and The Bus to Veracruz and a choral rendition of Rumi poems. Actor Frank Melcori sings musical versions of Jack Kerouac haikus. Poets Dale Harris and Gregory Candela perform their original work with friends Gerard Bezzeg, Jim Burbank, Ingrid Burg, Marsha Candela, Kat Heatherington, Mary Messinger-King, Jose Perez, Cody Power, Anne Ravenstone, Esther Roybal, Steve and Michelle Sullivan, and Trent Whiteside. Scott Sharot hosts, with technical direction by Nina Dorrance and John Davis. The Harwood Art Center is located at 1114 Seventh St. NW in downtown Albuquerque at the corner of Mountain Rd. and 7th St., 242-6367. PAST EVENTS: The 7th Annual Poets & Writers Picnic is Saturday August 28, 2004, noon to 4 pm, once again at the historic Shaffer Hotel, Mountainair, NM in the gazebo garden yard behind Pop Shaffers famous folk art wall. The Shaffer Hotel is 2 blocks south of the intersection of Routes 55 & 60. Free admission, open mic and featured readers. Bring a picnic lunch, buy one there from Chef Scott Sharot or enjoy local dining. Sponsored by the Manzano Mountain Arts Council during the Town of Mountainairs Sunflower Festival. It's that time again. The list of poets is huge again this year. Bios will soon be posted on the Web Page www.sparrowspoetry.com New this year, is a theme! "CREATION SPEAKS" Check it out. There are 14 different workshops you can attend and the Saturday night show is more experimental with original music by Pamela Robinson, a bunch of dancers, audience participation, great lighting and some photos. Poets of course will be there too, 18 poems, but the poets will sometimes be off-stage, sometimes in costume, so don't expect the same old show. Friday night has a big line-up of new poets and groups. Bongo Billy's is the headquarters this year, so if you get to town and want to find out where to go and how to get there, you will find someone downstairs at Bongo Billy's Salida Cafe.
